Pardons in South Dakota

A pardon is only available in South Dakota under certain qualifying circumstances.  There is a timetable for application and a list of materials that must be submitted prior to review.  The Board of Pardons and Paroles in South Dakota has the authority to review requests for clemency. The Board of Pardons and Paroles does not have the actual authority to grant the pardon. Instead, the board has the power to make a recommendation to the governor. ​

South Dakota Pardon Process

It is within the governor’s discretion as to whether or not the pardon will be granted.  A pardon has the effect of returning the convicted person to the same status they enjoyed prior to conviction.  If the pardon is granted the conviction will be sealed.  Laughlin Law has the knowledge and expertise to assist in requests for clemency to the Board of Pardons and Paroles.
